Conservation is a wide-ranging subject concerned with caring for our buildings and the natural environment. Fife Council is responsible for many different aspects of conservation. These include:
- offering information and advice on archaeology and ancient monuments
- providing information on buildings at risk
- dealing with proposals affecting Conservation Areas and Listed Buildings
- making grants available to repair and restore historic buildings, streets and spaces
- promoting the protection and management of wildlife, habitats and landscape
- keeping Rights of Way open and free from obstruction
- protecting trees
- getting involved in projects to improve the environment
- promoting high quality design for new development and alterations to existing buildings
- working closely with government agencies who are responsible for conservation - Historic Scotland for buildings, conservation areas and ancient monuments - and Scottish Natural Heritage for nature conservation and Fife’s landscape.
